Stevenage Ladies became County Cup champions for the second time in three years on Sunday after beating Royston Town 4-0 in the final at the County Ground in Letchworth GC.
After losing in last season’s final Stevenage were determined to reclaim the title and did so in style.
On 32 minutes Stevenage’s Rosy Wodhams put her side ahead when Bolu Fisher’s initial shot was saved and she passed the rebound to Wodhams who calmly finished in the corner.
Stevenage came out after the break with confidence and flare and doubled their lead on 49 minutes after a corner from Cara Breckenridge was headed in by Dom Godbeer.
Soon after the restart Royston’s Sammy Tinsley set her sights on goal but her shot rattled off the post. Royston then had two more chances only for Stevenage keeper Katherine Long to keep them out with a couple of fine saves.
Stevenage made it 3-0 with Wodhams scoring her second of the game, and then on 90 minutes Donna McGuigan broke through and found to the top corner to keep up her record of scoring in every round.
Stevenage Ladies are still looking for a major shirt sponsor for next season. Email Dave Potter for further information at DavePotter45@hotmail.com
