A STRONG performance with excellent passing and ball control proved a winning combination when Jimmy Smith scored a goal in the first half.

In the second half Matthew Cudmore stepped up the pace, and despite an unlucky shot which hit the post he put two goals past the keeper in quick succession.

These goals were swiftly followed by two more from Tom McGlynn and Ethan Lewis.

This was a side that played well together to ensure a well deserved victory.

Letchworth Eagles U-10 A 4 Bassingbourn Youth A 1

NORCROSS' goal was only a consolation as Bass' went down at Eagles.

It was the home side that started stronger, good link-up play forced Pearce to make a string of fine saves, but he was finally beaten by a clever placed lob. Bassingourn still shell shocked by Letchworth's attacking play, were undone again by a goal identical to the first.

A half-time re-shuffle saw Pearce in his usual midfield role, with Moody taking over in goal, again Letchworth attacked and some good goalkeeping kept the organised home team from scoring more, but Bass' defence was breeched again and Letchworth were 3-0 up.

From the re-start Bassingbourn seemed to wake up, attacks resulted in a number of corners, one finally being converted by Norcross via a Letchworth defender.

Bassingbourn's pressure was short lived though and Letchworth scored their fourth to wrap up the game.

BASSINGBOURN B team started stronger than their A team, but Letchworth nearly caught them out when a shot rattled the Bassingbourn cross bar in the opening minutes of the game.

Spurred on by the near miss Bass' kept the ball in the Letchworth half, and it did not take long before a poor clearance was collected by Cook who slotted the ball home.

Letchworth raised their game and another poor clearance at the other end, left Jordan unable to keep the shot out.

Bassingbourn stepped up the pressure in the second half and Cook was given the opening he needed and completed his brace.

Tough tackling from Smith and good work from O'Connor, gave debutant Winfield a string of chances who finally converted, giving Bassingbourn a deserved victory.

Hitchin Town U-11 0 Royston Celtic 1

A cracking goal from Ollie Sole was enough to put Celtic through to the next round in an excellent game.

Celtic were on top for most of the first half but a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the scores level. Sole and Guy Curtis both went close before Sole thumped a drive against the post.

The second half was a more even affair as Hitchin got back into the match. Celtic eventually went in front when the ball was played over the top and Sole finished superbly hitting a volley over the keeper.

The home side pushed forward for the equaliser and only an excellent last ditch tackle from Luke Bailey kept them out.
