SWIMMERS from Buntingford and Royston impressed as the Hertfordshire winter league got underway at Biggleswade on Saturday.
Buntingford finished second - behind Letchworth - in the first round of division three of the Major League and Royston third.
Club coaches were delighted with their swimmers' displays and the result keeps the promotion hopes of both clubs alive.
Buntingford clocked up more than half a dozen wins, with Emma Calder, Sophie Robinson, James Hooper, Matt Coote, Niall Power, Callum Faik and Josh Yarrien all producing impressive swims.
Tom Shield, Annabel Keam, Heather Barral, Sam Shaw, Bryn Davies, Emma Reeves and Graeme Downes all recorded victories for Royston, who at one stage were in joint first place.
It was the first time the two clubs had met in nearly three years. Buntingford were making their debut in the competition.
