ONE of the largest youth football clubs in the area is looking for players to build on their success of last season.

Hormead Hares won a number of trophies, and both boys and girls are being invited to try out for the club's various teams.

Club official Tony Seeney said: "Hares are fast becoming one of the largest clubs in the area and next season will be looking to run up to 20 teams, including three girls teams at under-10, 13, and 15 age groups, along with our academy for the over fives."

Despite the club having more than 200 players registered they are still looking to bolster some of the squads, particularly in the under-14s.

Players are also required for the under-13 boys who play in the Royston Crow League.

Seeney said: "Hormead's home ground, The Meads, has a reputation of having some of the finest pitches in the leagues.

"The ground boasts three full-size and four mini soccer pitches, as well as two training areas."

The club are also looking to install a new pavilion with changing rooms and floodlit all-weather training facilities.

Seeney said: "On the pitch all our teams at mini soccer and 11-aside held their own in their respective divisions last season, with the under-13s finishing top of the Crow League Division 4.

"The under-15 girls won their Cambridge League and finished runners-up in the league cup final."

Seeney says any interested players will find a friendly, well-supported and spirited club with an ethos of fair play, fun, and development.

He said: "Hormead Hares is a progressive club which has continued to improve on and off the field since it was founded in October 2000.

"Every one of our squads has a minimum of one qualified Level 1 coach, and all our coaches and many helpers have undergone the FA enhanced CRB checks."

The club is also a FA Standard Chartermark Club, and in 2006 was awarded a Queens Award for Voluntary Service - one of only three football clubs in the UK to have received such a prestigious accolade.

Seeney said: "This year we finished runners-up in the Best Charter standard club in Hertfordshire. It's a sign of the club's development."
