Bradley Evans, in his last year as a junior, hopes to go out on a high note by winning a place in the England squad and progressing to the Senior ABAs.
The talented Royston 18-year-old captured his second national title last weekend, taking the under-54kg Junior ABA Championship title by beating the previously undefeated Sean Costello at Crystal Palace.
Evans, who represents Stevenage ABC, out-boxed his Kettering opponent in sensational style and by the third round had opened up a 21-1 lead to invoke the out-classed rule.
He said: "It was a really proud moment and one I won't forget. It also means I'm now ranked as England's number one in the 54kg - so I'm really pleased."
Evans won the NABC Championship in 2005, but said the Junior ABC win was the best of his career.
He said: "Hopefully I can get a call-up for the England squad. I've boxed for my country before and it's always a great honour."
Evans, who boasts an impressive 33 wins in 45 bouts, says he hopes to win a few more amateur bouts before fulfilling his long-term ambition of becoming a professional.
"That's what I want to do. But first I have to do well in the Senior ABAs and then progress," said Evans.
The former Royston Boxing Club member added: "It's going to be hard and it's all about doing well - after that who knows what will happen?"
Evans' stepfather and coach Dave Blows certainly thinks he can go a long way and said he "deserved his success".
Blows added: "Bradley has worked hard to get where he has, and credit to him. He's got talent, but also a 'never say die attitude' which is also important.
"The final was the best I have ever seen him box, and I'm sure a few people have taken notice, especially the England selectors.
"I know Bradley has thoughts about professional boxing and whatever he decides to do he's got a bright future."
- Next up for Evans, who is currently seeking a sponsor, is a representative bout against the South African under-54kg champion at The Brentwood Centre on Friday, May 25.
