IT was a tough weekend of away fixtures for Hares under-eights sides, with both teams having to rely on their strikers to salvage the points against strong Letchworth opposition.

The Oranges took the lead thanks to in-form forward Harry Jarman's fine individual effort. Jarman's strike turned out to be the only game of the match, and Hormead did well to protect their slender lead.

Defender Jack Congrave and keeper Benji Wrigley shone in defence and helped ensure the game went Hormead's way.

In their game, the Blacks flew out of the blocks early on and pressured Letchworth into conceding an own goal within seconds of the kick-off.

But after their early setback, Letchworth grew confidence and scored three goals in quick succession.

Player-of-the-match, Callum Edwards, led the Hormead midfield gallantly, but Letchworth proved far too strong.

However, in the dying minutes, Hormead's top scorer, Joseph de Souza curled a corner into the net to bring some respectability to the defeat.
