Boreham Wood 4 Buntingford Town Under-18s 1

BUNTINGFORD Town Under-18s FA Youth Cup run came to an end last week as a strong Boreham Wood side came out on top in this second round qualifying tie.

Both teams started well, with plenty of attacking football on show. In fact, it was the visitors who started the liveliest with Aaron Welch going close.

So it came as a blow for Town, when Jon Clements followed up a long range strike after Buntingford's Will Cook pushed the ball into his path.

However, moments later Ricky Young scored the goal of the game with his exquisite turn creating room for a well-taken finish. It was a goal that epitomised their pass and move style with Jamie Morriss' cross finding Welch for the nod down.

Minutes before half time, the hosts were back in front when the diminutive Shane Johnson raced past his marker and fired home a delightful finish from close range.

In the second half the home side came out even stronger and added a third after 15 minutes when Johnson slotted home his second following a great delivery from the left by Lewis Donovan.

And it was Donovan who made it four when his powerful header left Cook with little chance midway through the half. Both teams created a few half chances as the game came to an end, with Cook in particular limiting Boreham Wood's chances.
