FAILURE in front of goal cost Melbourn on Saturday, as Cambridge University Press registered their fourth successive win of the season.
Hosting the current BIS League Division 2A leaders, Melbourn started brightly with both teams battling for possession across the pitch.
Russell Cooper had a good chance to open the scoring for the hosts when he beat three defenders and forced a good save from the edge of the Cambridge box.
Moments later though, it was the visitors who took the lead, when an attack down the left picked out an unmarked forward in the box with a strike that left keeper Glenn Pearse with no chance.
However, Melbourn rallied and enjoyed a good spell of their own midway through the second half, putting the Cambridge defence on the back foot.
But when Melbourn surged forward, it left their defence exposed, and when Cambridge won possession, the advancing Pearse was lobbed from outside the box.
