TOM Malins hit four goals as Buntingford put Saturday's disappointing opening day defeat behind them by thrashing neighbours Standon & Puckeridge on Tuesday.

The hosts' skill and pace was too much for their opponents, after Buntingford boss Paul Attfield made a number of changes, six of them positional.

And after a scrappy, niggling 20 minutes Ricky Young forced the Standon keeper to make a great save when his shot was turned wide, with Tom Malins stroking the ball home from close range from the resulting corner.

Malins doubled his tally and Town's lead seven minutes later, clipping the ball over the stranded keeper, before player/assistant manager Duncan Easley made it three, reacting quickest to another Buntingford corner.

With their opponents offering little going forward, David Cain, Easley, and Jamie Babbage looked in complete control at the back, with Town opening up the Standon backline at every opportunity.

With more goals seemingly on the cards, Malins completed his first senior hat-trick after 75 minutes, keeping his cool on the end of another through ball, before grabbing his fourth in identical fashion moments later.

New boy Danny Nicholls then completed the scoring late on with a superbly controlled chest and volley to cap an impressive night for the hosts.

Attfield said: "The players were annoyed with their performance on Saturday, and were keen to put that right.

"Apart from the opening 15 minutes we were in control and played some excellent football.

"Hopefully we can build on this win and reach the levels that we all expect."
