ROYSTON Town manager Paul Attfield has welcomed his side's FA Cup underdog tag and hopes they can cause another upset on Saturday.

The Crows travel to British Gas Business League Division One side AFC Hayes as their FA Cup journey takes them into the preliminary round, with a home game against Hendon awaiting the winners.

And having beaten Wembley of the Combined Counties league in style in the extra preliminary round, The Crows will be looking to inflict another surprise victory.

Attfield told The Crow: "Once again we will go into the game as the underdogs, which suits me just fine.

"That was the case for the game with Wembley and we gave a great account of ourselves in both games.

"AFC Hayes haven't started their season too well, having picked up four points from their first four league games, so it's certainly a good time to play them.

"They play two levels above, so we're not expected to win. There's no pressure on our shoulders.

"However, it all depends on the day, and if we can maintain the levels we have been showing lately, then I can see no reason why we can't get the result.

"We're certainly going there for the win.

"Like Wembley, AFC Hayes won't know too much about us, and we can use that to our advantage. I think Wembley underestimated us a bit, and look what happened there.

"So I'm hopeful of a decent result on Saturday, and I think we've got to be looking to at least bring them back to Garden Walk for a replay."

Attfield also praised his side's start to their league season, with two straight victories setting the tone for last Saturday's home game with promotion rivals New Bradwell St Peter.

In another entertaining game, a terrific performance from visiting keeper Shaun Abson and a late Lee White strike denied Town a further three points, as both sides battled to the final whistle.

Luke Robins and Craig Hammond both saw efforts brilliantly saved, as the hosts threatened to break the early deadlock.

As frustrations grew, the half was marred when the latter clashed with Andy Allison, with the Royston striker replaced at half-time following an incident at the break.

However, Town emerged with confidence and continued to see the majority of the possession, with Abson the man to thank once more for the visitors.

And the hosts had to wait until 75 minutes before the impressive New Bradwell number one was beaten, with captain Allan Reid rising high to nod home his second goal of the season.

Robins almost made it 2-0 when his shot flashed across the visitors' goal.

However, it was New Bradwell who were celebrating when Ed Wheatley slipped the ball through to White, who made no mistake with a cool low finish in the final minute.

Attfield said: "It was a little bit frustrating as I think we could have possibly taken more from the game.

"When you play sides like New Bradwell it's important to get that second goal, which we never did, and as a result they scored a late equaliser.

"However, overall I was pretty pleased with the performance, because I think the game with Wembley took a bit out of us."

Royston warmed up for Saturday's FA Cup clash with AFC Hayes with a trip to Arlesey Athletic last night (Wednesday).

"With the FA Cup game so close, Attfield was looking to make several changes, bringing in players on the fringe of the squad.

He said: "Our start has been excellent so far. We've looked fit and vibrant, as well as consistent.

"And if we can carry that through to Saturday's game, who knows?
