I REFER to the report in last week's edition of The Crow on "£66,000 project gets the go-ahead".

This related to the expenditure on the multi-games area at Norfolk Road, Butingford.

Cllr Bonner speaking for Buntingford Town Council claimed "refurbishment was only possible because the town council had been very prudent and saved funds for the project".

She went on to say: "Money has been put aside over the last three years and we now have enough to go ahead."

Like a number of town councillors, Cllr Bonner seems to have selective amnesia when it comes to certain council matters.

She forgets that in the financial year 2004-05 the Buntingford town precept was increased by 36 per cent and in the following year it was raised by a further 29 per cent.

The two increases alone raised the precept by some 77 per cent. Some prudence.

It has been shown that between 2001-02 and 2007-08 the town precept doubled resulting in a year-on-year increase of 13 per cent over that period.
