The topic for the meeting was The Yanks are Coming by Linda Scoles, who came to England with her husband and their three children in 1971, settling in Great Barton, where their fourth child was born.

She told tales of their time there. Her husband retired in 1984 and died in 2001, and she remains living in England, as do two of her children and grandchildren.

Members were saddened to hear of the death of one of their members, Joan Foster, who died on April 28, and condolences were sent to her family.

Names and deposits are now being taken for the Stratford-on-Avon trip on September 9.

Winners in the evening's raffle were Gwen King - box of chocolates, PVC rug - Lynn Grey, Jan Fraser - chocolate truffles, Rosina Bloomfield - purse.

The next meeting will be Actress and Beadworker by Eliza McClelland on May 21.

There will be no meeting on bank holiday May 28, and on June 4 therewill be a plant and book sale in aid of the Charity of the Year, the British Heart Foundation.
