Medical inspection. Marked fit. It had been a pleasant holiday.

Left camp at 4pm. Civilian train to Noyelles and troop train through Rouen and Harfleur, the artillery base. Arrived 3pm.

Through town to depot, stayed night in No 11 Casuals. Again we started soldiering, or were supposed to. Although I didn't do much and didn't intend to. Too many officers and NCOs who had never and would never heard a gun fire.

Went up the Pimple. A tremendous hill sloping up from the camp. All the training grounds were on the top of the hill. Had to pass gas tests (as if we hadn't experienced enough gas).
