THE decision to withdraw the No 17 bus service is disgusting and nothing short of a criminal act against elderly and vulnerable members of the community.

I challenge the councillors who voted to abolish this service to walk from Coombelands to either the town centre or Tesco, load up with a week's shopping and then carry it back to their starting point.

As they stop to ease their aching arms and backs they would do well to imagine how much worse it would be if they were elderly pensioners, possibly with hip and/or knee replacements.

I don't for one minute expect the No 17 bus to be re-instated, as that would amount to a climbdown by the council.

In view of this may I suggest a compromise? Reduce the frequency of the No.16 bus and extend its route to include the route previously covered by the No.17 bus.
