I read in your paper that North Herts District Council is thinking of making job cuts, thus reducing the service.

Would it not be a wonderful gesture that all council officers and councillors gave back 15 per cent of their salaries and kept their colleagues in work, keeping the system going and just being more friendly?

Would it not be a good gesture in these hard times if the district council tax increase was rated at zero for a year?

The money could be found if they stopped using consultants and losing money like we did over the toilets and survey of Royston.

Why not ask for volunteers to do these jobs? There must be many retired people who are more than capable of asking the right question.

Another way of saving money is to cancel all contractors and agencies and have all work done in house.
