THE new parking charges particularly for short-term parking is yet another example of North Herts District Council's total disregard for the community of Royston.

We are going to see as a result further illegal or anti-social parking in residential streets which is unsightly, frustrating for residents and visitors and dangerous for all road-users.

Revenue is likely to drop rather than increase as people "take a chance" for five minutes.

As we have seen with speed cameras, when thought to be unjust people take action and we are likely to see ticket machines vandalised.

Traffic wardens - never the most popular of officials - will find themselves even more vilified than usual.

And perhaps most significant for the town centre shops, this comes at a time when Tesco is expanding its store and extending the range of products on offer all with free parking. This is yet another nail in the coffin of the community of Royston.

Thank you so much North Herts.
