I THINK the residents of Royston should be aware of an invasion of black squirrels.

During recent weeks two of these delightful little creatures have been visiting my garden regularly to feed on fallen apples and nuts in the bird feeder.

Although they are really grey squirrels with a very high level of the black pigment melanin in their hair, the resident grey squirrel does not take kindly to the fact that "foreigners" are stealing food from his "larder" and chases them off quite aggressively.

But, undeterred, the little guys are back next day after more food.
