ichard Alberg, the founder and chief executive of a company that helps get people into work, has replaced Peter Bathmaker as chairman while the role of vice-chairman has been taken on by built environment expert Lynne Ceeney.

Speaking of his appointment, Mr Alberg said: “I’m delighted that the board elected me to the role of chair at what is a critically important and exciting time for the college.

“The challenges we face are well understood. We have a clear, ambitious strategy to improve and diversify our offer to young people, businesses and the communities we serve.”

Matt Hamnett took over as new chief executive and principal at the college, which has campuses in Hitchin, Letchworth and Stevenage, in March.

Mr Alberg added: “I’m really looking forward to working with Matt and the team to realise that vision.”

Lynne has been working with the college in a voluntary advisory role since 2008.

She said: “The college has a crucial role to play in the local economy and community.

“Whether we’re helping young people prepare for the world of work, supporting businesses to realise their growth potential through investment in skills, opening the doors of our fantastic estate for community use, or helping to create a resilient future, we see our mission as being to serve our local area.”

Mr Hamnett said: “We are working in a time of great challenges, but also real opportunities for further education.

“We’re confident the five year strategy we are finalising will enable us to make a real difference for our students.

“Lynne and Richard’s appointments are a really important step in our journey.”
