IT now seems possible that Royston is going to get an all-weather sports pitch.

Councillors will now decided whether to give the proposals the go-ahead when the scheme for a site at The Meridian School is considered.

There should not really be any argument over the plans.

The site earmarked for the all-weather pitch is a decent distance from residential properties and, therefore, should not cause disturbance.

Indeed, the planned location is an improvement on a previous scheme which would have seen such a development too close to properties.

It is encouraging, too, to listen to The Meridian School head teacher, Dr Michael Firth, say that the all-weather pitch is for schools and the community as a whole.

We are sadly lacking such a facility in Royston and it was recognised more than a decade ago by Sport England that such a development would receive a positive response.

Let us hope that the sporting body is thinking that way as preparations are made to submit a bid for Lottery cash.
