WHEN Cllr Lynn Berry says Royston Town Council is apolitical I believe her to an extent. The individuals who make up the council hold certain political beliefs, largely Tory, I know, but the council as a unit works hard for the town, above and beyond those beliefs.

It is unreasonable to suggest that on top of giving up so much of their spare time, councillors should also sacrifice their personal political beliefs. No-one should have to sacrifice their beliefs for a job, and especially not where those beliefs are the driving force behind so much good work.

Having lived in Royston for the best part of my 24 years, I've seen the town go from strength-to-strength. Credit should be given where it's due to those responsible, regardless of whether we share their political beliefs.

Our town is a far-cry from the political minefield of Zimbabwe, as referred to by Cllr Robert Inwood (The Crow, July 3), and it would do some of us good to remember that.
