OUR quiz night season came to end on Saturday evening.
And yet again we didn't really distinguish ourselves.
We had the sudden realisation that perhaps we're becoming too much of a veteran team.
When it comes to questions on Kylie Minogue and Britney Spears, then we realised we didn't have a chance.
Indeed, it leads to the conclusion that all questions on pop music should not include any that are beyond the 1960s.
You can ask us about The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, and The Who and Elvis, and we've got the answer (or we should have the answer).
If a question on today's music comes up, then we're completely lost.
But we don't believe that having a round on pop music was our real undoing.
We understand from an impeccable source that there was an attempt to undermine the ability of one of our team.
Some members of one of our rivals were spending their time earlier in the day at the same barbecue where we happened to be, too.
Now as happens on occasions such as this, there is plenty of wine being consumed - and it became obvious that one glass in particular seemed to be constantly filled.
You can imagine that it dulled the brain of one our members to such an extent that a usual quick-thinking mind was dulled.
It's a tactic we have not seen employed before, but it certainly worked.
Of course, it could have been that spending a relaxing afternoon, drinking and eating cremated sausages was a better activity then preparing seriously for a quiz battle.
But that's our excuse.
Still we're now discussing whether to return in the autumn when the round of quiz nights begin again.
And here, too, we have a problem.
We are losing two members of our team because they have the audacity to be moving to Yorkshire of all places.
So we're thinking of having auditions for anyone who has good general knowledge. They do not need to be exceptionally brilliant, but we do expect them to reach a standard that would not be embarrassing on Mastermind or University Challenge.
