THE Royston Bypass Action Group gained support from the then Cambridgeshire MP
In a letter he said there was "a clear need for a bypass" around Royston and he promised he would add his support to that of Royston's then MP Ian Stewart.
He said there was no reasons for delaying preparation work for the A505 Royston bypass, although he warned that the scheme could suffer from cash restraints.
The move came shortly after it was revealed that representatives from Cambridgeshire County
Council and Herts County Council were having talks about the project.
In the past month, too, the action group handed out more than 10,000 leaflets to motorists in which it demanded a bypass around Royston.
An action group spokesman told The Crow at the time that its campaign now saw the Department of the Environment as its "prime target".
- Proposed plans for the development of the Burns Road estate in Royston were criticised by councillors.
One described the scheme as the worst plan they had seen and went on to criticise the plans for the lack of play areas and shopping.
Meanwhile, South Cambridgeshire District Council described the proposals as "monstrous and suburban in character".
