Youth council under threat

A LACK of support has raised questions about the future of Buntingford Youth Council. At last month's meeting only two youth councillors attended. The plight of the youth council was discussed during a meeting of Buntingford Town Council on Thursday evening. Cllr Teresa Bonner said: "If they are not going to come to the meetings then do they just want the title youth councillor, because they are really not doing anything. They have no ideas or ambition. "The youth council used to be a talking point in surrounding areas and it was a big thing. But now I look back and think, was it because of the people on the council at the time? "It's their town and there are opportunities out there, but they are not using them. "The majority of youths are good in this town but they have got to pull their finger out. "They want it all, but they are not willing to do anything or give something back. "Maybe it's because they have more input in school councils. I just don't know," she said. Youth councillor Tom Swain told The Crow: "I was unaware the future of the youth council was in question. I couldn't go to the last meeting because of a compulsory meeting at school." The town council is going to write to each of the youth councillors and the issue will be reviewed within the next two months.
