A DIRECT bus service for young people from Buntingford to Stevenage will become a reality next week.

For months the Buntingford Youth Council has been looking at the possibility of arranging a bus to Stevenage Leisure Park.

The first service will leave Buntingford at 7.30pm next Tuesday, February 12, to coincide with the under-18s night at Liquid Nightclub.

Youth council clerk Jill Jones said: "This is a pilot scheme. If it's popular we will make it a regular service.

"People can just turn up on the night, but quite a few seats are already taken, so I would advise booking in advance."

The youth council had hoped that the bus service would start last November, but problems with getting consent forms meant the project was held up.

Meanwhile the youth council's plans for a summer music festival have been boosted by the news that they are set to receive a grant of £20,700 towards the costs.

The cash will come from the Youth Opportunity Fund, which is a government scheme administered by county councils.

Mrs Jones said: "We are just awaiting confirmation."
