POTENTIAL tycoons of tomorrow pitched their business ideas to a panel of experts at a Dragons Den-style event this week.

The Make Your Mark contest, organised by the Royston Business Learning Hub, took place at Royston's Meridian School on Monday.

Stephen Larcombe, who was on the judging panel, said: "At the start of the day the children were given the task of coming up with a business idea which embodied the spirit of the 2012 Olympics.

"They then went away in small groups to work on their ideas, and the judges went around to offer them assistance.

"At the end of the morning they had to present their ideas to the panel, and we were very impressed with the imagination shown and the quality of the schemes."

The winning entry was an idea for events that would take place at tube stations during the Olympics, themed on different participating countries.

This will now be put forward to a national competition, organised as part of national Enterprise Week.

The Business Learning Hub has been up and running for a couple of months, and Mr Larcombe is pleased with how the project has been received in Royston.

He said: "This is the first 'meaty' project we've organised, and it went extremely well.

"Because of the links the learning hub has, we were able to get judges representing many different sectors of the business community.

"Hopefully this event will fire the imagination of those pupils present to become the young entrepreneurs of the future.
