AN elderly woman pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries yesterday (Wednesday) after a road accident involving a lorry. Police closed Melbourn Street in Royston for more than three hours after the accident, which took place at about 10am.

Police closed Melbourn Street in Royston for more than three hours after the accident, which took place at about 10am.
Five police cars and two paramedic vehicles from Cambridge and Letchworth attended the scene, together with an air ambulance, which landed in the Priory Memorial Gardens.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "Due to the nature of the incident and the injuries the woman had sustained, our trust's air ambulance was sent to the scene.
"Following rapid stabilisation on the roadside by the paramedics and a doctor, the patient was taken by land ambulance to Addenbrooke's.
Police said that the woman was in a serious, but stable condition.
In a witness appeal, Pc Paul Andrews, said: "We would specifically like to speak to a number of cyclists who were riding nearby at the time."
Pc Andrews said that anyone with information should call 0845 3300222.
On June 19, pedestrian John Salkield, 79, of Newmarket Road, was involved in a collision with a silver Toyota Rav 4x4 outside the Manor House car park in Melbourn Street.
Mr Salkield suffered serious head and chest injuries, but is now in a comfortable condition in Lister Hospital.
