A WOMAN was taken to hospital with a serious head injury after the car she was driving crossed a central reservation on the A505 at Royston.
Emergency services received a call at 1.30pm on Sunday after reports that a black Chevrolet Kalos had ended up on a grass verge on the westbound carriageway after crashing while travelling eastbound.
Police shut the road in both directions up to the junction with the A10 as two fire crews from Royston and one from Baldock used cutting equipment to free the driver.
An East Anglian Air Ambulance was also deployed but the woman, who remained conscious, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge by land ambulance, where she has received treatment for her injuries.
Three passengers in the car sustained minor injuries in the incident but did not require further treatment.
The eastbound carriageway was reopened at 2.45pm after debris had been removed from the road and the vehicle recovered, with traffic allowed on the westbound carriageway again five minutes later.
