Councillors have rejected plans for a wind farm in Crow country.
The scheme, which would have seen five 100-metre high turbines built on land at Highfield Farm, Litlington, was rejected by South Cambridgeshire District Council’s planning committee when it met last week.
Villagers in Litlington have fought a long campaign against the plans, forming the Stop Litlington Windfarm group, and Bassingbourn ward district councillor Nigel Cathcart told the meeting that local people would not accept the turbines because of their impact on the landscape.
Applicants Highfield Wind Energy had said the farm, which would have cost £10-£15million to build, would have provided enough power for 5,000 homes, as well as boosting the local economy.
But Litlington Parish Council and Royston Town Council both came out against the scheme.
Speaking in September, Royston town councillor Jon Davison said: “The conservators of Therfield Heath say ‘no’, Therfield Parish Council say ‘no’, and the people of Litlington say ‘no’. We should say ‘no’ too.”
Members of the district council planning committee rejected the proposal 11 votes to one.
