CHILDREN from three schools in Royston have been putting their best foot forward as they help tackle climate change. The pupils from Icknield Walk, Greneway, and Meridian took a walk to school on Wednesday morning, accompanied by a giant inflatable globe as part of National Walk to School Week.

Teaching assistant Sheran Lombari from Greneway Middle School accompanied the children. She said: "We took two children on the walk. They were amazed at the environmental facts they were told." The globe that joined the children on their walk represented the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere by one family on an average day's school run. County Councillor and executive member for highways, transport and rural affairs Stuart Pile said: "Walk to School Week is a great way of encouraging parents and children to leave the car at home and walk instead and the benefits are enormous." The National Walk to School Campaign is jointly run by TravelWise and Living Streets with support from the Department for Transport and Transport for London.
