THE revived Royston Arts Festival was an overwhelming success.

Thousands of people turned out for events which ran from stand-up comedy to a history walk around Royston.

In between there was drama from the Royston-based group Cads and a concert in Royston Parish Church which was given a Last Night of the Proms atmosphere.

Organiser Kathy Wholley said: "We can say without any doubt that it was certainly a success.

"And that's not just our opinion. This is what we told by the people who attended the events."

She said the organisers had learned much from putting on the four-day festival.

"It was good to see it revived and I believe we created four exciting days for the community," said Kathy.

And next year? "We said we wouldn't do it again, but when we had a meeting on Monday evening we started thinking about next year.

"There's already some new ideas about what we should do," she added.
