PUPILS from Roman Way First School in Royston have raised more than £1,000 to buy a defibrillator. The pupils took part in a sponsored jump day to buy the equipment for the British Heart Foundation. Pat Baxter, heath education co-ordinator at the school, said: "The children took part in the British Heart Foundation's Jump Day with great enthusiasm." They also took a leaf out of Jamie Oliver's book and ate healthy food for the British Food Fortnight. Mrs Baxter said they "really enjoyed the healthy eating". Partly due to these activities, the school has been granted the Healthy Schools' Award from Herts County Council. Wendy McGawley, of the British Heart Foundation, was on hand to present an award certificate to the pupils. The award is given to schools that "promote physical and emotional health by providing accessible and relevant information and equipping pupils with the skills and attitudes to make informed decisions about their health".
