FLOODING caused chaos in Royston on Wednesday night after torrential heavy rain for more than hour.

Fire service crews were called out to dozens of incidents and were involved in pumping water out of flooded cellars.

Roads were almost completely flooded in several parts of the town, and on Thursday morning mopping up operations began as businesses began to asses the damage from the storm.

There were reports of severe flooding at Roysia School, Royston, where lightning as well caused damage to its computer system.

The giant Tesco supermarket was closed while staff worked on clearing the mess the storm had left behind.
