People with concerns about the aftermath of a large wood fire at Flint Cross are being encouraged to visit a web page dedicated to updates.

A page has been set up on the South Cambridgeshire District Council’s website with the latest information about the clean up of the fire at the Bridgefoot Quarry Recycling Centre near the A505.

The website features the most frequently asked questions each agency has received, an air quality monitoring summary and a section for updates.

Councillor Mick Martin, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s cabinet member for environmental services, said: “It is important to remember that you will not see anything happening for a little while as some of the material is too hot at the moment, but behind the scenes the Environment Agency is working with the site owner to make sure they plan and manage the removal of the ash and burnt wood that remains.

“I would encourage anyone who still has questions to visit the website as it is likely to answer them and updates from the various agencies will also be posted over the coming months when work is going to be carried out.”

Last week the Environment Agency issued an enforcement notice to ensure the site is properly cleaned by the owner.

The fire at the site broke out on November 13. Jets and hoses were used briefly to contain the fire, but it was left to burn in a controlled manner for three weeks as the site is located in an area designated for the protection of ground water resources.
