A group of gentleman who looked like they’ve come straight out of the Edwardian era have been spotted around Royston ahead of the Melbourn Bloomsday celebration.
A group of gentleman who looked like they’ve come straight out of the Edwardian era have been spotted around Royston ahead of the Melbourn Bloomsday celebration.
The group took a trip back in time to encourage shoppers to bag their own bowler hats for the annual festival, which honours James Joyce’s Ulysses and takes place next month in Melbourn.
Festival co-ordinator Hugh Pollock, who went along to Dysons in Market Hill dressed as lead character Leopold Bloom, said: “Royston is a market town playing a major role in the life of Melbourn and the other surrounding villages.
“Dysons has been trading on this spot for decades – Leopold Bloom from Ulysses could easily have shopped here.
“We encourage everyone to get their bowler hats for the festival as I don’t want to be the only Leopold Bloom there!”
Melbourn Bloomsday has long supported WaterAid, which works towards its vision for people across the world to have access to safe water and sanitation by 2030.
