Youngsters in Royston will soon have the benefit of a revamped play area in the town after work began on Friday last week.

New timber play logs, new cradle swings, a zip-wire and a new seating area will be installed at the play area in Serby Avenue.

The spider climbing frame and toddler equipment will all be refurbished as part of the work.

The £64,000 revamp comes after Groundwork Hertfordshire consulted park users and families during August and September on North Herts District Council’s behalf, to find out about the type of equipment they would like to see in the park.

Councillor Jane Gray, the district council’s executive member for leisure, said: “We carried out consultation events with families and users of the park to ensure that they had their say on the type of play equipment they would like to see and now that is becoming a reality.

“We are really excited about the makeover for the play area and we can’t wait to see the end results when the project is finished in the spring.”

A council spokeswoman said the work is estimated to be completed by April.
