TWO schools in Royston were forced to close today (Thursday) because of water supply problems in the town.

Large areas of Royston were without water this morning, including Meridian and Greneway schools, who took the decision to close.

A spokesperson for Three Valleys Water said: "The problems this morning were caused by the failure of a piece of equipment that measures water pressure. Engineers are at the scene and had resolved the problem by about 9am. Water supply should be back to normal by 10am.

"Unfortunately when the schools phoned us earlier we were unable to give them a definite time when the water supply would be restored, so they decided to shut for the day."

The spokesperson added that residents may notice that their water is slightly cloudy when it comes back on. However this is normal and will take a few minutes to clear.
