Water main bursts in Litlington prompting two-hour police road closure off A505

A burst water main in Litlington at the weekend saw police close the road linking the village to the A505 for more than two hours.
The burst happened around 8.40am in Royston Road, and officers and engineers from Cambridge Water were called to the scene.
Eyewitness Simon Dray, from Steeple Morden, told the Crow: “My wife and I were on our way to Royston, we left about 8.30am.
“Apparently water had been bubbling up since 6am Saturday morning, and the burst had just occurred when we came along.
“We stopped the other side and called the police as there were rocks and debris being thrown in the air by the water.

“By the time we returned about an hour later the police were on the scene with the water board.
A police spokesman said: “We were called at about 8.40am on Saturday to reports of a burst water main. Officers attended the scene in Royston Road and closed the road until Cambridge Water arrived. It was cleared at about 11.10am.

A Cambridge Water spokeswoman told the Crow: “A team of engineers attended the site where they isolated the burst and rezoned customer supplies by 10:50am. “Around 150 properties in Steeple Morden and Guilden Morden lost water supply for about 30 minutes while their supply was being rezoned.
“The affected main was repaired and returned to service by 5:45pm. No other customer supplies were interrupted during this time.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank people for their patience while we carried out the repair work.”
