A charity event in Melbourn which saw the village transform into the set of James Joyce’s Ulysses was celebrated at a gathering in the hub on Saturday.

Members of the cast performed short readings from the book before a cheque for more than £900 was handed over to Water Aid rep Louisa Peaver to mark the success of the Melbourn Bloomsday event held in June.

Louisa thanked the Melbourn village community for the generous donation that will help Water Aid work towards its vision for people across the world to have access to safe water and sanitation by 2030.

Hugh Pollock, group co-ordinator of the Melbourn Bloomsday Celebration Group, closed the meeting with a heartfelt tribute to the Water Aid project, and thanked all the trusted volunteers for their hard work in making sure the day was a great success for the village.
