A COUPLE who first met during the Second World War celebrated their diamond wedding with a party at Cottered Village Hall.

Stan Wilds was in the Army when he met his future bride, Molly Peck, when stationed in Norfolk. At the time she had been working away as a children's nanny, but had returned home on holiday.

Stan and Molly subsequently married at Kessingland on June 15, 1946 and have since spent all their married life in Cottered.

"If it hadn't been for the war, we would never have met," said Stan.

Three of their four bridesmaids were able to join them on Sunday for the celebrations arranged by the family.

One of the highlights was a telephone call from their grandson in Melbourne, Australia. He also sent them a bouquet of red carnations like the bride's wedding day flowers.

Instead of presents, the couple had asked for donations for the International Myleoma Foundation in memory of their daughter-in-law, Linda.
