CATALYTIC converters are being targeted by thieves, and police are warning motorists to be on their guard.
Recent weeks have seen an increase in the number of catalytic converters and spare wheels, with commercial vehicles and 4x4s thought to be particularly at risk.
Inspector Paul Lawrence, from the Herts Police Crime Reduction Unit, said: “These items are being stolen for their scrap metal value, and they are difficult to secure so we are asking all members of the community to help us catch these thieves.
“We are also working with scrap dealers across the county to ensure that any stolen items come to our attention immediately.”
Police have teamed up with Brundell’s Auto Centre of Whinbush Road, Hitchin, to offer 120 vehicles free catalytic converter marking on a first come, first served, basis. Anyone interested should call 01462 455513.
