A WARNING over fly-posting has been issued to Royston Town Council.

The trouble came after a sign for this year's classic car show - an event run during the Royston May Fayre - was erected at the junction of Newmarket Road and Melbourn Road, Royston.

North Herts District Council took action after its licensing officer had seen the sign.

But it said it would not be prosecuting the town council.

A statement from the district council said, however, that in future any signs displayed should have the "necessary permission" to be erected.

The statement continued: "The district council does recognise the value of advertising local events, but this needs to be balanced with the road safety considerations."

The organiser of the classic car show has been issued sent the letter, too.

Ironically, the town council has over the years raised questions with the district council about fly-posting around the town.

It is believed, however, that not one prosecution has been carried out by the district council.

No-one at the town council was available for comment on Wednesday afternoon.
