A PLAN for a massive warehouse in Royston was described as coming from "cloud-cuckoo land". The comment came during a discussion at Royston Town Council's planning committee meeting on Monday evening. Councillors opposed a scheme for a warehouse on a site near Greenfield on the Orchard Road industrial estate. The plan has been submitted by John Dickinson Stationary, which is believed to be transferring from its current site in Sawston. The site is outside the development limits. This means an eventual decision on the scheme might have to be taken by the Government Office for the Eastern Region. Councillor Rod Kennedy said the building would be an eyesore and the plans submitted did not show the true impact the development would have on the area. He said a 15-metre high warehouse covering five acres could not be hidden and anyone who believed it could blend into the landscape was "living in cloud-cuckoo land". Cllr Kennedy said he was "absolutely staggered" that the plan was submitted. Councillor Bill Prime said: "I'm wondering why any company would want to spend money putting in this planning application, knowing there's going to be problems with the site." Cllr Harrison said, however: "I say let them build it. If we can bring more jobs to Royston then so be it.
