A MAN from Royston is set to conquer one of the Seven Wonders of the World - a challenge that could be the first of many.

Steve George of the creative agency Black Pig, in Upper King Street, is preparing to undertake a 100km trek along the Great Wall of China.

The 22-year-old is taking part to raise funds for Oxfam and hopes to raise £2,500 in the process.

The trek is part of the charity's global challenge programme which also involves expeditions to Kilimanjaro, Cambodia, and The Himalayas.

Steve said: "I'm really looking forward to the challenge that this trek will bring and knowing that the funds raised will be put to good use across the globe is very rewarding."

The Great Wall is 6,700km long and stretches from the east coast of China through to the Gobi desert.

Steve's trek will take him across some of the more remote regions such as Jinshanling and Simatai.

He said: "With the Olympics in China set to take place next year I'm looking forward to getting a taste of the culture beforehand.

"I'm already planning to visit Tiananmen Square - one of the city's most famous landmarks."

Steve is also hoping that his friends and family will be able to follow his journey, by setting up a blog and photo diary.

He said: "I want all my sponsors to get as much out of the experience as possible. I will be updating a blog from the Great Wall and I also hope to make a photo diary that I will then donate to Oxfam.

"I can already sense that I'm coming down with the travel bug.

"This may be just the start - I would love to visit all of the Seven Wonders of the World."
