An initiative of free walks to promote healthy activity and encourage more people to make the most of the outdoors has marked its 10th anniversary.
The Hertfordshire Health Walks celebration, co-ordinated by the Countryside Management Service, saw more than 600 people take part in free walks across the county on Monday, including in North Herts.
Reflecting on this week’s milestone, the service’s project manager Ciaran Mullin said: “It’s about trying to encourage as many people as possible to join us either as a walker or a volunteer in an enjoyable atmosphere.”
Benefits of taking part in the walks include strengthening your heart, muscles and bones, as well as reducing stress and improving your general well-being.
Organisers also say the sociable aspect of the walks is an important part, with the opportunity to meet new people in a group environment and increase your confidence.
