Volunteers ready for second Royston repair cafe
PUBLISHED: 09:11 26 April 2014
Volunteers will be manning Royston's second Repair Café tomorrow (Sunday) to help people fix their broken household items.
The repairers, recruited by the Royston Freecycle Group, will be at Meridian School from 10am to 1pm to assess and, where possible, help to mend broken items.
This is the second Repair Cafe – 24 items were assessed at the first in February, including chairs, bikes, computer printers, and high-tech gadgets.
Freecycle Group member Ben Brooks brought his flat-screen TV to the February Repair Café after a toddler’s interest in the on/off switch managed to break it.
He said: “We found out what was wrong – I needed a new power board. John the repairer was really good and told me what I should do after that. I got hold of a power board on eBay and the TV is now up and running.”
Royston firm EnlightKS are sponsoring four Royston Repair Cafes, which will be held during the next 12 months.
Though the event is free, those attending are asked to book online in advance to make sure the right repairers are there to help.
