A Royston painter became Melbourn Community Hub’s artist-in-residence for the day, as she went along to give an insight into her creative process.

Vivienne Machell’s month-long exhibition, Faces and Places, has been well received at the hub, and draws to a close next Saturday.

She said: “The prospect of going in did seem a little daunting, especially as every table in the hub appeared to be taken and a lot of people were looking in my direction. A few early stage paintings were displayed, to give people an idea of the processes involved.”

Vivienne said she was “pleasantly surprised” by the interest generated, and found herself spending as much time talking to art enthusiasts as she did working on her painting.

“I found it especially rewarding talking to the youngsters who all appeared fascinated by how a painting emerges just by using simple but effective brush strokes.

“Many painting tips were passed on along the way and hopefully these budding artists may go on to be future exhibitors at the hub.”

Vivienne will be back at the hub in High Street to sketch people in the cafe on Saturday – so if you go along, you could feature in one of her paintings in future.
