A village oil club has made a donation to a Royston charity which provides transport for those in need.

The Melbourn Division Oil Club sees residents club together to achieve a discount on heating bills by bulk-buying oil. Each year the group receives a rebate from supplier Agricole Oil to put towards a community project, and this year they have donated £105 to Royston and District Community Transport (RDCT)

County councillor Susan van de Ven, who chairs the group, said: “RDCT provides access to the outside world for many people who would otherwise not be able to get out for all the ordinary errands of daily life but also the pleasure and importance of social contact. That the Melbourn Hub is now on the RDCT drop-off and pick-up list exemplifies what community transport is all about.

RDCT’s manager David Wherrell said: “We are extremely grateful to Susan and Agricole for the most generous donation, which will help with our administration and vehicle running costs. With funding from some of our major supporters under threat, we need to look for new sources of financial support and this is a marvellous gesture.”
