Bassingbourn village college students celebrate their good Ofsted status

A VILLAGE college is targeting outstanding status after being rated “good” by inspectors.

Ofsted visited Bassingbourn Village College in February and the inspectors’ report showed the college had achieved a “good” rating in all five of the categories assessed.

Principal Duncan Cooper, said: “I am delighted that the hard work by staff and the positive attitude of our students have been recognised in this way. Since I joined the college I have been incredibly impressed by the dedication of staff and our students’ passion and maturity.

“We have had many opportunities this term to celebrate sporting success on a local and national stage and a group of our Year 11 students achieved excellent results in GCSE maths in January.

“Students have been involved in lots of different visits and activities, including a dance show, music concerts and visits to museums and the theatre.”

In their report, inspectors noted that the behaviour of pupils was outstanding in more than 50 per cent of lessons.

Mr Cooper, who took over as principal in January, added: “The college is now planning to build upon this success to achieve outstanding status in its next Ofsted inspection.”
