MP Oliver Heald believes his opposition to proposed gypsy and travellers' sites in the area has been "ignored" by the East of England Regional Assembly (EERA).

And he has reported the EERA to the National Audit Office and the Equality and Human Rights Commission, after it decided that 15 new pitches for travellers must be created in both North and East Herts by 2011.

He said: "The regional assembly ignored my representations to them that the allocation of pitches for travellers should be on the basis of need.

"It is quite wrong for travellers to be forced into sites in isolated locations.teria for new gypsy sites.
