Playground equipment paid for by a group of mums in Buntingford has been vandalised just two weeks after it was installed. Action Babes, a voluntary group which aims to improve facilities, purchased a springer which was erected in the Seth Ward play area with money raised from fund-raising events. Melanie Voller of Action Babes, said: "We are very upset. Our main concern is why it has been so easy to vandalise the piece of equipment. "We are frustrated because we raised the money in the hope that it would be appreciated. "At the end of the day it's spoiling it for the younger generation. "The equipment is obsolete now because it's unsafe, which is a shame for the young children of Buntingford." Town clerk Jill Jones said: "The vandals have removed all the fittings from it, so there's no handles, footrests or covers for the bolts. "Action Babes put a lot of hard work in to raise the money for the equipment and they thought long and hard where things were needed. It wasn't done lightly." The town council had agreed to maintain the equipment and will attempt to get the parts replaced.
